6 February 1862: Sketch Showing Route of the Burnside Expedition

Item description: This map is included with Major General J. G. Foster’s report to the Joint Committee on The Conduct of the War, a Congressional oversight committee set up in 1861. Although Foster’s report was published in 1866, the map indicates the position of Burnside’s Expedition on 6 February 1862–just off Stumpy Point (in present-day Dare County), in the Pamlico Sound of North Carolina.
