Item Description: Telegram, 14 July 1863, from Miss Rowland to Rev. Pringle, Richmond, Va. Miss Rowland’s telegram asks Rev. Pringle to write Miss Pettigrew of Mount Carmel, Abbeville, S.C., to inform her that “Genl Pettigrew was wounded in the hand or arm at Gettysburg [and] is still with his command.” That same day, James Johnston Pettigrew (1828-1863), brigadier general in the C.S.A. Army of Northern Virginia, was mortally wounded in Falling Waters, Md., during the Army’s retreat to Virginia.
