Abstract: Civil War diary of Miss Edmondson of Shelby County, Tenn., recording news from the front, local skirmishes and rumors, troop movements, the running of contraband through federal lines, activities of family and slaves, and a trip to Mississippi, including stops in Tupelo, Pontotoc, and Columbus, where she visited generals Forrest and Chalmers. According to family legend, which appears to be supported by the diary accounts, Miss Edmondson was a Confederate spy.
