Abstract: Jane Gurley lived in Windsor, N.C., in the mid-19th century. Chiefly letters to Jane Gurley of Windsor, N.C., from friends and relatives in La Grange, Tenn., and Louisburg, N.C., concerning family, church, and community affairs. Also included are two letters, 1830 and 1836, from Matild Gurley (or Turner), a slave in Brownsville, Tenn., who formerly had lived in Windsor, giving news of her relatives and inquiring about people in Bertie County, N.C.
