Abstract: John Hill operated a plantation, apparently in the Edgefield District, in South Carolina. He commanded the Springfield Beat Company of the South Carolina militia in the Edgefield District. Plantation journal, January-September 1830, kept by John Hill, presumably in Edgefield District, S.C., including references to slaves; accounts for medical services to slaves rendered by Hill in 1835; and records of the Springfield Beat Company of the South Carolina militia, kept by Colonel John Hill, Edgefield District, S.C., 1836-1843.
