Abstract: Recollections, written ca. 1917, of aspects of Powell’s Confederate service. “Reminiscences of the first eight months of the war, 1861-2” recounts experiences with the 24th North Carolina Regiment in Virginia. An untitled essay presents anecdotes about slaves as cooks and waiters in the Confederate Army. “Wilmington’s City and River Defenses” describes events involving these defenses, 1863-1864.
